Devils Claw 500g

Devils Claw Root [Harpagophytum procumbens] is known as natures form of Bute.

Used for its analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties, it is useful for treating pain in a range of joint and muscular problems in horses.  The bitter action of Devils Claw stimulates and tones the digestive system.  As it is thought that most arthritic conditions in horses are associated with poor digestion and absorption of food, Devils Claw has a stimulant effect on the stomach which contributes to its use as an anti-arthritic remedy.
Trials have shown the analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects to be comparable with cortisone and phenylbutazone, without the attendant side effects. Scientific evidence supports the use of devil's claw root to help relieve pain and inflammation in horses with arthritis and other painful disorders.

Devil's claw contains iridoid glycosides, components believed to have strong anti-inflammatory effects. Harpagoside (one type of iridoid) is highly concentrated in devil's claw root and has been reported in some laboratory studies to have significant pain-relieving and anti-inflammatory properties. Its main advantage is that it can be used long term with no side effects.

Other uses: Rehabilitation of bone, ligament, tendon and muscle injuries, joint ill, viruses, laminitis, chronic osteoarthritis in horses.

Warning: Do not use in pregnant mares as it can stimulate the uterine muscle, and do not use on horses if there is suspicion of gut ulceration.

Dosage: 10-20g daily for a 500kg horse.
